Some background on Florence
Florence, or Firenze in Italian, is located in the heart of Tuscany. The city is considered an outdoor museum, and is home to some of the most illustrious works of art - both within the city's museums, and outdoors. Known not only for its art, Florence is an historic city founded by the Romans in 30 B.C.
Often when there isn't an international market or antique fair to browse, there may be a concert or a festival of the season. A host of 19th century theaters attract international companies to Florence to perform some of the world's most renowned operas and plays.
Otherwise, an evening is typically spent meeting friends for a glass of wine, or a coffee, and a stroll along the shop lined avenues.
On weekends, travel outside of Florence is very convenient as Tuscany is one of Italy's central regions. On the fast train, the Eurostar, Rome can be reached in 1.5 hours. Pisa, Bologna and Lucca are about an hour away, while Siena is only 45 minutes by car or bus. Both Venice and Verona are approximately three hours by train.
Only minutes from the city there are ancient Roman and Etruscan remains including an amphitheater that is still in use. Just outside the city limits, one enters the area of Chianti and there, in the fall, the smell of wine fills the air.
Our TEFL centre has its location in a 19th Century building with 16 large and fully equipped classrooms facing the Piazza della Repubblica, the heart of the city's historic Center.
